Our
STORY

We would like to take a moment to share what is so radically different about Nawala. Once you hear our story, I think you’ll get it.

We grew up in large families in Pakistan. We didn't have much growing up. But we always had delicious food, prepared with no shortcuts.

By some wild stroke of luck, we came to the United States for our education. We joined the ranks of busy professionals in New York City, and got used to the corporate diet of Chipotle and Sweetgreen, Our meals had become bland and boring.

We longed for a taste of home. But so much of the South Asian food in New York City was LIGHT on protein, HEAVY on carbs, and LACKING in ingredient transparency. To enjoy a taste of home meant sacrificing our health.

So, we embarked on a mission that most people thought had only a slim chance of success. We sought to create a version of our favorite food — South Asian street rolls — packed with protein and light on calories. Bursting with flavor, cooked using ORGANIC INGREDIENTS.

We spent a year and a half going through recipes until we landed on a handful of rolls that checked literally every box. It was surreal. We were euphoric. After hundreds of iterations, we had finally landed on these recipes that everyone — from every background — loved.

That’s the heart of Nawala. Today, we hand-make our rolls in our commissary kitchen, driven by one simple mission: to create delicious, uncompromising food. No copackers. Nothing outsourced. Everything handmade from scratch, with NO SHORTCUTS.

Something you can enjoy every day and feel good about. Just like we did growing up.

WHAT IS A KARACHI ROLL, ANYWAY?

Karachi Rolls originated in the vibrant streets of Karachi, Pakistan’s biggest city and a melting pot of cultures and flavors. Born from the bustling food stalls lining the city’s avenues, it’s a handheld feast that perfectly captures Karachi’s love for bold, spicy, and satisfying eats.

Picture a warm, flaky paratha wrapped around juicy, marinated chicken or beef, spiced with aromatic herbs and chilies, topped with crisp onions, cooling chutneys, and a squeeze of lime. It's the kind of street food that’s packed with flavor and history, giving you a true taste of Karachi’s energy, diversity, and passion for food in every bite.
